Pregnancy and Women’s Health

Low back pain, pelvic pain, groin pain and rib pain during or after pregnancy can be a result of a change in hormones, a change in posture and also be related to childbirth. Typically pelvic pain in pregnancy can cause discomfort with walking, rolling over in bed or standing on one leg to get dressed.

Here at Synergy Physio we have a special interest in pregnancy related pain and expertise in the treatment of SIJ, pubic symphysis and lumbar pain during and after pregnancy. Nichole has worked in Sydney with one of Australia’s leading pelvic physiotherapist’s Dr Barbara Hungerford at Sydney Spine and Pelvis Centre, and has regularly assisted Dr Hungerford in teaching her pelvic manual therapy courses for physiotherapists across Australia. Both Jane Buzolic and Alice Mackenzie also have extensive experience in the management of pre and postnatal related pain or injury.

Alice Mackenzie has additional qualifications in the management of pelvic floor dysfunction and is a qualified women’s health practitioner. She is a partner at the Integrated Pelvic Clinic in Nambour and consults with Synergy Physio on Fridays. She also offers women’s health care following breast surgery, oncology and enjoys educating and supporting women in all areas of pre and post natal health.

At Synergy Physio we use a combination of gentle manual therapy techniques and exercise based rehabilitation focusing on pelvic stability. Pelvic belts are also available for purchase to assist in stabilisation of the SIJ or pubic symphysis if required.
