Connect Therapy™ – Unique Exercise Rehabilitation by Jess Morrin

If you have attended our clinic here at Synergy Physio Peregian then your experience may have been a little different to other physiotherapy clinic. So what sets us out against the rest?

You will have noticed our initial assessments are longer than usual, 1 hour versus a common 30 minutes in other clinics. You will have noticed that our assessment is very thorough and often covers your entire body. Why do our physios bother to spend time to gather this information?

The human body is an intricate machine. Think about the body weight that you balance on two small surface areas-> your feet! There is a transfer of force through the ‘kinetic chain’ from your feet to your head which determines how you move. If there is an issue in the kinetic chain then the problem might show up along the chain and you may have symptoms far from the problem.

At Synergy Physio, we use a specialised assessment and treatment technique that looks at the whole chain to get to the root cause of your problem. This technique is called ‘Connect Therapy™’ and was developed by a world leading physiotherapist Dr LJ Lee in Canada. Like to know more about Connect Therapy™?

Ok, so you have had your assessment, you know what areas in your body are impacting your symptoms and you have been having treatment. But how do you make sure the treatment sticks? How do you change the kinetic chain and your movement patterns so that your problem doesn’t return and resolves completely?

It is important to realise that you will need to learn to change your habits and your nerve pathways in order to change your body. Life is so variable, so these habits need to transfer into everything that you do! From hanging the washing on the line, to going for a long run, there are activities in your life that you will need to transfer your new ‘pattern of movement’ into.

Sometimes exercise is not just about strengthening and stretching! Exercise rehabilitation can be used as a tool to retrain your habitual movement patterns and help resolve the underlying problem that has developed. That is why, a variety of exercises will help you, and the key is variety, which means different positions, different joints and different loads can all be used to retrain your movement patterns and ensure your problem resolves.

Here at Synergy Physio we understand that life gets busy and not many people have time in their day to cover all that is needed to fully recover with their home based exercise program. Sometimes its even difficult to know if you are doing your program correctly!

So we have developed an exercise class especially for you, that targets your area of dysfunction, with variation and guided progression. The class will be tailored to your movement goals and will help you to learn how to transfer these skills into your life.

There are 2 types of classes:

‘Heads’  This class is for the diagnosed mechanical issues of the upper body. If your Synergy Physio has diagnosed you with a neck, rib or shoulder issue, this class is for you.

Tails’  This class is designed for the diagnosed mechanical issues of the lower body. If your Synergy Physio has diagnosed you with a pelvis, hip or foot issue than this class is for you.
